Here in North Yorkshire, we were lucky enough to welcome the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2014. The success of that led to last year's Tour de Yorkshire, an event that will place again next weekend 29th-30th April. Because of this I thought it might be useful to share a food review that I did at a lovely country pub in Kettlewell which I'll add to the rest of my North Yorkshire restaurant reviews, so those visiting the area can have a few ideas of where is good to eat in Skipton, the surrounding areas and The Yorkshire Dales.
This is first and foremost a style blog, so it would be remiss of me not to mention my outfit. It was February when I did the review and although I blogged about it at the time, here are a few photographs of what I wore which was a Mint Velvet dipped hem, zipped front shirt dress with opaque tights and high-heeled black suede ankle boots.
This look could easily be adapted for today's spring weather by losing the opaque tights and teaming it with a pair of wedge sandals or peep-toe boots.

This is a spring version of the dress from the current SS16 range at Mint Velvet and is a very similar print and shape.

As I said earlier, it was February when my friend Sally and I dined at The Kings head in Kettlewell. We were afforded a warm welcome by the staff and by the open fire set in a large Inglenook, a beautiful focal point in this lovely country pub.
We each ordered a glass of Prosecco (£3.50) and perused the menu which is displayed on a large blackboard on the wall.
The food served is British with a modern take on pub classics. To start, Sally ordered black pudding and chorizo with parsley mash, poached egg and mustard sauce. This was a beautifully presented and substantial starter which would have sufficed as a small main course or as a delicious brunch (£8.95).
I had seared king scallops with pea puree, black pudding, crispy samphire and tomato sauce (£10.95). This was divine. The pea puree was beautifully sweet and the samphire added a little texture to the velvety scallops.
For her main course Sally had Chicken Wensleydale, a large chicken breast stuffed with apricots and Wensleydale cheese served with heritage potatoes, air-dried ham and a mushroom cream sauce (£15.50). It was succulent and full of delicate flavours, all of which complimented each other perfectly.
Wines are available by the bottle and by the glass and we each had a glass of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc which complimented our main course beautifully.
Dessert was divine and I had salted caramel tart served with chocolate sorbet. It was rich but not heavy and the chocolate and salted caramel were a heavenly combination.
Sally was equally enthused with her rhubarb and ginger pudding and I can confirm by having stolen a spoonful that it was indeed heavenly.
The Kings Head is a jewel in Kettlewell’s crown. It is the perfect place to stop for lunch or dinner after a country walk and with food of the highest quality is well worth a visit.
