March and April are always busy socially as we celebrate the birthdays of a number of my family and friends and we brought this particular party season to a close on Sunday with a lunch for my son who was 13 and my sister-in-law who was 30.
My red midi skirt is from the Gok Wan range for Tu and is in the most vibrant shade with the added bonus of pockets. I'm finding myself increasingly drawn to the midi length this season, finding it elegant and romantic and as much as I will always love a tunic dress, I'm enjoying wearing something different.
A voluminous skirt calls for a simple and streamlined top.
Bardot styles work well, (by drawing the eye across the shoulders, they balance the width of the skirt), as do slim fitting t-shirts that can be tucked in. A midi skirt will even work well with a sweatshirt if it's the right shape. Take a look at my Pinterest board for more inspiration on how to style a midi skirt.
I've always loved Broderie Anglaise and this top with its Peter Pan collar is at least three years old and I wear it time and time again.
The vibrant orange-red is best complimented by gold jewellery and the Danon double star ring is proving to be THE piece of the season. Available from my online boutique Lizzy O in both matt silver and matt gold, they are hand-crafted in Israel, so every one is unique. You can see my fellow blogger and friend Catherine from Not Dressed as lamb wearing hers here. My next newsletter will be out on 1st May with an exclusive discount code for Lizzy O, so sign up by filling in the form in the right hand side bar.
The midi can be a tricky length to master, but the right shoes make all the difference and although I have worn a midi skirt with brogues, I prefer wearing with a heel. The trick is look for a skirt, the hem of which sits below the widest part of the calf. If you have slim ankles, draw the eye towards them with a statement shoe.
My colourblock heels are from Kaleidoscope and are featured in their current #SoakItUp TV advertising campaign. They are beautifully made in the softest leather and the red, white and blue combination is perfect for wearing with jeans, breton stripes and with nautical styles.
Love Liz x
