I'm not a beauty blogger, nor can I be deemed in any way an expert or an authority on skincare, but what I can do is write honestly about those products that work for me and that have made a noticeable difference to my complexion. And that's exactly what I'm doing in this blog post.
Back in October, Katy Hull, founder of Treat The Skin You're In contacted me to see if I'd like to try some skincare products. I was impressed with her background and with the reasons for starting her business as well as with the descriptions of the products themselves. I've always been careful to protect my skin with a daily SPF and have a good cleanse, tone, moisturise routine but other than that I'm rather low-maintenance. Katy wanted to know if I had any specific concerns, so I told her that the laughter lines around my eyes are getting deeper and more noticeable, (although I don't mind these too much because I'm grateful for the huge amount of laughter in my life), and that the skin on my throat and neck is becoming increasingly lax, (this I do mind, because after all nobody wants a turkey neck).
Based on this, she sent three full-sized NCN Skincare products for me to try and I have used them religiously alongside my existing products for almost three months so they have been given a very thorough and genuine trial.
The first product is the Multi-Acid Cleansing Gel– Katy's best selling cleanser (£23.99). It deeply cleanses, mildy exfoliates with acids and enzymes and infuses hydration with vitamin B5 and Aloe Vera. Although I use a facial wash every morning in the shower, I've always used a cream cleanser in the evening with a warm, damp muslin cloth to remove make-up, so this was something different for me. I expected my skin to feel tight afterwards but it didn't. It felt soft and clean. By using it once daily for almost three months, I have used one third of the bottle so I would expect it to last for 8-9 months.
Vitamin C+ Serum (£36.99) is a super-antioxidant serum that contains 20% Ascorbic Acid as well as antioxidants Ferulic Acid and Glutathione, and Vitamin E. It stimulates collagen production, repairs the skin, protects it from free radical damage, firms and brightens it and reduces lines and wrinkles. This I use this in the morning, (after using my regular facial wash in the shower), on my face, neck and decollette. It has a pipette which makes it easy to handle, though I suspect I may have used more than necessary because I'm almost at the end of this. It is completely non-irritating and once on the skin takes a minute or two to dry and sink in. Once it has done so, I apply my daily moisturiser.
This next product, the DNA Serum, (£47.99), can be applied over the Vitamin C+ Serum (and before SPF and moisturiser in the morning), but I chose to use it in the evenings only, after cleansing with the multi-acid cleansing gel and toning with my regular toner (which for interest is an Elemis apricot one). This serum is formulated with Juvinity which is clinically proven to reduce lines and wrinkles, reduce skin redness, tighten pores, firm skin and improve skin’s natural moisture retention. Only a small amount is needed and I've used just less than half of the bottle, meaning it should last for around 6 months when used once a day. Again, it takes a minute or two to sink after which I apply my usual night cream.
I can honestly say that I have noticed a significant difference in the texture of my skin. It looks more even, it looks and feels plumper and it has a slight glow about it. It feels firmer too and I think my cheekbones and jawline appear to be slightly more defined (I can see both in the mirror and by looking back at older blog photographs). It was interesting too that my beauty therapist who I see regularly to get my eyebrows shaped and lashes tinted, commented that my skin was looking very taut.
I'm looking forward to seeing more results and I will definitely be buying all three of these products myself once these have finished and I thoroughly recommend each and every one.
