This is the first time I've done a book review on my blog. Mainly because I don't read as often as I ought; a shame because it's a past time I adore.
However, I browse cookery books frequently and I have countless.
Friends, Food, Family: Notes and Secrets from LibertyLondonGirl by Sasha Wilkins is my latest aquisition.
Sasha's blog, Liberty London Girl is one which I have followed for some time. It's hugely successful and she is very influential. A bona fide journalist having worked on the Wall Street Journal among numerous other publications, she writes about fashion, style, flowers, food, family, her travels and her sausage dogs.
Her blog is a visual and literary treat and is as beautiful as it is intelligent.
I absolutely adore it.
This, her first book is gorgeous. As well as recipes it contains notes about eateries, antique markets and farmers' markets from around the world; a reflection of her peripatetic lifestyle. It feels a little like a journal particularly because Sasha took many of the photographs herself. It's aspirational.
If I could be any blogger...
The recipes are neither complex nor lengthy and are full of fresh, seasonal ingredients as well as store cupboard staples. The dishes look spectacular but not showy.
My cooking mojo which I feared had deserted me has returned and I'm full of renewed enthusiasm. Puffed-Up Bread Pudding with Cheese and Ham sounds like the perfect post football/rugby supper for my ravenous 11 year old boy; and my chocoholic 13 year old daughter's eye was truly caught by the Brownies which she will bake herself this weekend.
DIY Salmon and Vegetable parcels sound ideal for a girls' supper and Hedgehog (Hasselback) potatoes perhaps with roast chicken have family Sunday lunch written all over them.
My only criticism?
I would love to have seen more photos of the beautiful flowers and place settings she so often shares on her blog and on social media.
Hopefully in book two...
